Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but music licensing isn’t subjective. When it comes to adding music to social media posts as a brand, every upload must be licensed for commercial use, or the brand could be liable for copyright infringement. We’ve been paying close attention to how brands use music on sites like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, and there’s been an increase in copyright lawsuits against major brands. The uptick had us wondering – who are the biggest users of music among different sectors of commercial brands?
To start answering that question, we analyzed over 19k social media posts from 10 top beauty brands on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Twitter and compared them against our registry of music. Please note this report includes music identified, regardless of direct licensing information.
Check out our key takeaways below and reach out if you want to see where your catalog is being used by major brands.
25% of beauty brand videos analyzed use music
Some brands are using music, specifically major label catalog, more than others. Within the 19k posts from our analysis, we identified nearly 5k matches to music in our registry, of which more than half matched to major label catalog.

TikTok posts include more major label catalog than Instagram and other social media platforms
We analyzed a different amount of posts for each platform based on what we were able to access, but when looking at the percentage of music matches in the posts analyzed, TikTok has the most music use and highest amount of major label catalog. 30% of posts analyzed on TikTok contained commercial music, and 19% of all posts analyzed contained major label catalog.
