I’m pleased to announce today that Chris McMurtry has joined the product team at Pex as our Vice President of Product. Chris will play an instrumental part in the development of Attribution Engine, leading our data efforts to support our vision of attribution for all.

Chris brings more than 15 years of experience as a leader in the music technology space, and deep industry knowledge as an accomplished composer and musician. His passion for technology and desire to support creators is a powerful combination for Pex and the creator economy. I love the energy and enthusiasm Chris brings to the complex world of attribution. He is one of the most humble professionals I’ve ever met and I can’t wait to see his impact at Pex.

Chris joins Pex by the way of Exactuals, a leading provider of payments in the music industry, where he served as the Head of Music Product. During his tenure, he led the design and launch of RAI, a software development kit and open API that leverages machine learning to correct and enhance song and recording metadata. The solution helps rightsholders and artists to be paid accurately and quickly, which aligns perfectly with several functions of our Attribution Engine.

Named one of Billboard’s “2019 Digital Power Players” Chris is a rare combination of a tech founder and musician. His company Dart Music, acquired by Exactuals in 2018, was the first automated digital distribution platform specifically designed to handle the complex metadata of genres such as classical music. Born and raised in Nashville, he previously managed the classical music record label Refinersfire and served as an Information Systems & Technology mentor at Apple.

In his own words, “Years ago I sat down to write my personal mission of what I wanted my life’s work to be about. That which tied my passion for music, data, and product experience with the values of transparency, honesty, and beauty. I wrote ‘data should never get in the way of attribution or payment.’ I still remember where I was the first time I read the white paper on Attribution Engine. It was the first time I had heard of Pex and I knew instantly this is where I belong. They have the same vision!”

It’s an exciting time for Pex, and bringing on industry leaders like Chris will ensure that we’re building the best product for platforms, rightsholders, and creators alike. Welcome to the team Chris!
